Candidate for Legislator: Valerie Cross (Chemkwaat)
Experienced Leadership, Strong Advocacy, Grounded in Culture
The Creator blessed me with a strong voice and a kind heart. I honour those gifts through service to our families, our Members, and our Nation.
I am a proud Tsawwassen Member. I am deeply grateful for the family members whose teachings continue to guide me, including my mother Roberta (Bobby), Grandma Pearl, Grandpa Isaac Williams (Teeweelam), Great-Grandmother Elizabeth Point, and Great-Grandfather August (Gus) Williams.
For more than two decades, I have served Tsawwassen First Nation as a staff member supporting government and community initiatives, then the honour of serving three terms as a Legislator, two terms on Executive Council, and one term as Squiqel (Speaker) of the Legislature.
During this time, I have contributed to initiatives including the Sustainability Charter, Strategic Plan, Treaty Review, and Community Safety Plan. I have supported important community projects such as the Elders Centre and Cultural Hub, Administration and Legislative facilities, Member engagement initiatives, housing and wellness programs, Elder supports, and cultural and community events.
My ongoing focus is on protecting Treaty rights, strengthening community well-being, supporting housing, education and employment opportunities, environmental stewardship, and creating opportunities for future generations.
